 | 01:42 am - end of the world is soooo last season Watching Children of Earth reminded me of at least one reason I'm happy that RTD will no longer be the show runner for Doctor Who... There's only so many times that you can up the ante with ZOMG THE END OF THE WORLD!!11!1!!!!!! before it becomes pathetic and cliche since we all know that the world must be saved for the show to continue.
/sigh It's almost like every episode of Voyager season 1, "Will they make it home next week?" Of course not since that would mean the end of the show's premise.
Here's hoping for less ZOMG End of the World and a return to some suspense and mystery with more reasonable stuff to encounter or defeat. Current Mood: annoyed

 | 12:14 am Dear HP fandom,
Please. Please stop changing a character’s name into something "unique" or "romantic" or whatever. If you absolutely must, please make sure there’s a valid reason for it somewhere in the fic, perhaps the fact that he’s in hiding and going under an alias.
"Well, Harry James Potter just sounds so plebian! I’m going to call him Phoenix Raven Skyler Myrlyn-Snape-Dumbledore!" is not a valid reason. Feel free to disagree, but personally, I don’t think the fandom you’re working in is really Harry Potter...if the main character of said fandom is not called Harry Potter.
The name changing makes me twitch almost every time I see it. Today I clicked into a fic and was immediately bombarded with this opening sentence:
Lord Harry Potter-Gryffindor-Slytherin-LeFay-Merlin watched in abject fascination as the Wizarding populous proved again how idiotic they were.
I don’t know if the story is good. I don’t particularly care, either, because I can’t stop laughing long enough to read it. (Also, what is with the "Gryffindor-Slytherin"? This happens quite a bit. Just because he has deeper connections to those two houses doesn’t mean he needs it hyphenated into his name.)
