11:16 pm - In which animanga fandom produces much LOL WOTery
The world of animanga provided me with much WTFery today. Some of which was good WTFery, but still...

- In April, an excerpt from the 10th Haruhi Suzumiya novel will be published in a Japanese magazine.

Yes, the 10th novel actually appears to be seeing the light of day sometime soon. Wonders never cease. But where will I go to look for fan translations of it, now the last site got pulled down?

- So, apparently there is an "American Manga" written by Gene Simmons' son (!). Nothing special, right? Well, apparently large chunks of it were inspired, copied and downright traced from a number of notable manga, Bleach most obviously. Cue epic shitstorm.

ETA: Now also on Fandom Wank.

I don't even read Bleach (though I know some people on my flist do), I'm just boggling that he thought he could get away with something that blatant. I mean look at the comparisons. That's not even subtle plaigarising.

In other news, I am attempting to get myself back on a remotely normal sleeping pattern before my classes start up again. Because, well, I fortunately don't have any 9am starts. But there are always morning classes. Joy.
Current Mood: surprisedsurprised

So... kinda like a TAFE, but fancier I think? (IDK, I went straight from School to Uni). The course names being generic sounds about right; the Uni courses here are general, but you can major in a lot of different sub-topics.

Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science. Science major is Psychology, for Arts I double majored in Sociology and English (Creative Writing). Not exactly vocational learning, I know.

Oh no no no. That's Femio, the comic relief minor character. The guy with Suzaku's voice is this guy, Fakir. *points to icon*

*wikis TAFE* Yep, looks like it!

Ahaha, an ex-teacher of mine was trying to convince me to apply for Warwick's Creative Writing degree... but I have limited creative talent here :x
But then vocational or not, there is a need to study what you like! Where else is the fun then? (Why I ran from junior college: I picked SCIENCE and very belatedly realized NO I CANNOT DO THIS ANYMORE. Too much small picture when I was more big picture i.e. I loved my O level biology chapters on reproduction in plants and animals HURRRR big surprise there *cough* but when it got to analyzing cells molecule by molecule...)
Besides, in the "kiasu" (lit. scared to lose out) spirit of Singaporeans, you could still say "But at least I'll be qualified to TEACH it!" [...And I'm just going to try and explain this by saying all most Singaporean Chinese can think about is how much money your job is going to bring you. They aren't exactly very supportive of those "starving artists" ideals just yet.]

OIC. ... *makes note to check out Princess Tutu; that hair and that outfit is just too delicious, never mind what I said about no more anime.......>_____>*

True that. I did great at Maths in school; got to Uni and failed it first semester because it was so boring I found studying it painfully tedious.

And LOLOLOL. You've just reminded me I need to get a proper job. Teaching is like my "if all else fails" job prospect. Get a Dip. Ed and teach Psych or English at a high school. ;_;

For a taste of what Princess Tutu is like, this AMV is amazing (Read: People have been convinced to watch the series by it alone). I'm not going to push anything at you, but if I were to recommend a series, it would be Princess Tutu. It is one of my all time favourites of any series, it's incredibly difficult for me to come up with any flaws for it, and it manages to be really good both in terms of characters and on a meta thematic level.

Plus I did ballet for years and years as a kid. I has a weakness.

...oh my word.

watching. watching. watching. there is no way I am not giving this show a chance now even though the style isn't exactly my thing jakdhgfjbgfhjfdjgh *speechless*

*WATCHES VIDEO AGAIN* congratulations, I think you just found me my new distraction!

Years and years?? I think I lasted... about one year at that trade when I was young ;A; Ah, those "good toe, naughty toe!" days... *misty, faraway look in eyes*

Huzzah! Hopefully you won't regret it.

If you do watch, just be warned that the first few episodes are kind of cutesy and predictable. However, once they get good, they get really good, and all the arc plot stuff is amazing.

I think it was 11 years all up. And I did Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, all sorts of different stuff. It probably also explains my fashion sense, which has been described by complete strangers as "flamboyant".

My, you're an artsy one aren't you.

I was thinking about enrolling myself in ballroom dancing classes once I get more free time. But then I'm kind of... inflexible ESPECIALLY when compared to Lelouch's lovely hand motions, or that AMV.
Maybe I'll just stick to aiming for more horse-riding lessons first. (Not an easy thing to get here though, urgh B|)

Just 'cos I did it for a long time doesn't mean I was good. Just... experienced. It only looks the same to the untrained eye. (I have this whole horrible thing where I can come up with all sorts of amazing, creative ideas, I just never have the skill to actually make them happen. Hence why I go around trying to convince people to write this fic or do this art for me).

One of these days I really should find me an adult dance class again. Maybe once I finish Uni and no longer have to deal with study or homework.

Awww D:

"Write this fic or do this art" sounds very familiar ;D

... so any recommendations on where I can watch this epic Ballet thing? I'm looking at animeseason.com, but it'll be nice to have backups just in case ;P

And that's why I want to be a Secret Master of Fandom.

...I can't really help you on that. I own the box set, so I don't know where it is online.

Ah s'alright! I'll stick to what I can find then.

I've watched the first 2 episodes and they are ADORABLE. The anteater and the cat creep me out some, though. Also LOL, Suzaku being an asshole ^A^
The Prince is cute, and the MAIN LEAD won my heart straight away I thought she'd be those moe-moe types to appeal to fanboys but she's a lot clumsier and down-to-earth and adorable so I stand corrected!

I own lots of box sets. Admittedly, like half of them are from the Neighbourhood Anime Shop Of Dubious Legality. And I am pretty certain they were *cough* made in Hong Kong

I love Neko-Sensei, he's a hilarious freak. And yeah, Fakir is so Suzaku. It'll be even more so once you get to his backstory.

Mytho is pretty, but he isn't really my favourite (I still like him, he just took a while to grow on me). And Ahiru is awesome adorableness personified. And I don't think fanboy appeals was really what they were going for with Princess Tutu (though it's good enough that boys will admit to liking it) - the creator was a woman, and she had the idea while working on Sailor Moon.

I need more Princess Tutu icons, honestly...

The prince has got dem eyelashes!!!!!! (which constantly remind me of how CLAMP draws their characters) - but other than the pretty/slightly gay factor I realize I am not particularly attracted to either boy at the moment. I am, however, pretty certain both will grow on me, and especially Fakir, if I remember what I've read about the story... *totally not being biased because he sounds a bit like Suzaku*

Neko-sensei: YOU. MARRY ME. RIGHT NOW.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that the creator was a woman, but I was still apprehensive somehow ^^" AHIRU IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING IN THERE.

also lol dubious legality.

HK and China. Or Johor Bahru in Malaysia. We Singaporeans are no strangers to the art of finding such steals as well ;D

He's pretty, but starts out so passive I was a bit meh about him at first. Once he gets a bit more personality he's more fun, though. And I looove Fakir. But yes, he's a bit of jerk to start off with.

Ahiru is made of adorable and win.

The shop I'm thinking of has the China/HK stuff. There's another one in the CBD that has stuff from Malaysia, but I've heard rumours about some of the subs there being really bad. Which may explain how they can sell shows that aren't even on DVD in Japan yet.
