|11:47 pm - I'm pretty certain there a lot of tangents in this post that made more sense in my head|
That ended up being surprisingly interesting for a day in which I was just expected to go into the city and then back home after lunch.
Anyways, someone on melbournemaniac was selling a whole bunch of manga second-hand very cheap, so I went and bought some stuff. Which meant I ended up going into the CBD to pick up a pile of volumes of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Yays for pretty CLAMP art!
Of course on the way in it was really freaking windy- when I was crossing the road, my poor hat got blown off and almost got run over. Fortunately the car stopped before that unmitigated tragedy could occur. I mean, that was the original hat. Luck was obviously on my side today.
But yeah, picked up my bag o'manga, had Hare Krishna food for lunch (Speaking of which, I have to wonder just how old I actually look. No-one ever asks for ID when I buy drinks, but people still assume I am a student just by looking at me.), bought a few bits and pieces that I missed the other day when things closed.
Oh, and got a couple of cheap summer dresses from the Designer Incubator. I figure I'll probably need them over in the states with their heat-wave or whatever.
And then I got a haircut. Which I probably didn't desperately need just yet, but I think I want my hair to look nice when I'm travelling
And now I am tired. How can just wandering around the city buying things be so tiring?
Here, have some Doctor Who wank as a refreshing treat.
Incidentally, does anyone remember an article a while back - not on LJ, but linked to me from LJ (maybe Firefox News?) - that was all about how two people can watch the same show but be seeing, basically, two entirely different shows? Something like that, anyway. It's not for anything serious, I just kind of want to reread it, and maybe keep the link handy.
Current Mood: tired
Get a drink with ice. Lots and lots of ice.
(Huzzah! \o/)They were an actual couple in a non-canon webcast
. But yeah, that was the scene when people went from, "So this might be a bit slashy" to "HOLY SUBTEXT, BATMAN!" There's a reason for my icon.
LOL, I seem to alternate between spending heaps, and spending, like nothing at all.
Ice machine is broken, so acquiring ice requires effort I usually don't bother with, lol. (Yes, my dad is too cheap to fix that too)
Yeah, when I start picking up on that subtext, I know for sure it's there.
It's sort of similar to me- but considering any job I have pays very little, it means that spending a lot generally overcomes what little I've saved.
...Don't you have a freezer? I mean all you need is a freezer, and a tray for the ice cubes.
Yeah, there's some particularly blatant (sub)text there. It's probably worth mentioning Doctor Who has rather sizable gay fanbase. And for the record, Torchwood has canon gay couples.
Yeah, that doesn't exactly help.
Oh yeah we do, but usually what ice trays we have get used up quick and no one bothers refilling them. We're trying to get better at it, but it's not easy, lol.
I've heard that, yes. I suppose that helps Torchwood somewhat, really, having a sizeable gay fanbase from its parent fandom.
It helps that the Exec Producer who brought Doctor Who back and created Torchwood is the same guy who created Queer As Folk.
I didn't see it coming, though - I was one of the people who started an LJ comm for this character we thought had an interesting cast description. He ended up being the main characters love interest and fan favourite
with some really batshit fans. Yeah, that was interesting.
Huh. Didn't know that, lol.
Ianto, was it? He looks pretty interesting.
Ianto, that's right. They way I heard it, he wasn't even intended to last the whole season. But they liked what he did, so he was made a recurring character. And he became popular with the fans, so he was made a main character (and love interest). And then his fanbase got huge, and he was made into one of the central characters.
Then there was the miniseries, and the fandom imploded.
